Big Game, Boat Cruises & The Roaring Nile

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest protected area, bisected by the mighty Victoria Nile which plunges 45 metres through a narrow 7-metre gorge to create the spectacular Murchison Falls. This safari combines classic game drives across the northern savanna with an unforgettable boat cruise to the base of the falls.

Expect elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions and the elusive leopard on game drives, while hippos, Nile crocodiles and a huge variety of aquatic birds line the riverbanks. For the adventurous, an optional hike to the top of the falls rewards you with a thunderous, unforgettable view.

Trip Itinerary

Day-By-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

Depart Kampala early morning and drive north via Luwero and Masindi, arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a short game drive en route as wildlife sightings begin immediately upon entering the park.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Nile Boat Cruise

After an early breakfast, tour the northern sector of Murchison for a high concentration of savanna wildlife — elephants, buffalo, giraffes, Uganda kob and lions. Return for lunch, then embark on a 3-hour boat cruise to the base of the falls, cruising past hippo pods and crocodiles.

Day 3: Top of the Falls Hike & Chimpanzee Transfer

Optional early hike to the top of Murchison Falls for a dramatic view of the Nile crashing through the gorge. Afterwards, transfer south toward Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking the following day, enjoying scenic Rift Valley views along the way.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest

Report to Kanyanchu Tourist Centre for a briefing before entering the forest to track wild chimpanzees. The 2-3 hour trek also offers sightings of other primates, birds and butterflies. Evening at leisure at your forest lodge.

Day 5: Return Transfer to Kampala / Entebbe

After breakfast, begin the drive back to Kampala or Entebbe Airport, with lunch en route, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
