Arrival and Pick up

Your 1 day  Uganda cultural safari begins with a pick-up by your guide at a location of your choice in Kampala. Your guide will provide a briefing session on the different safaris available, including the rules and regulations to follow during your safari. Once the briefing is complete, you’ll embark on a visit to the Kasubi Royal Tombs, one of Uganda’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Kasubi Royal Tombs

The Kasubi Royal Tombs are the final resting place of four great kings who played significant roles in Uganda’s history. Among them are Kabaka Mwanga, who ordered the killing of Uganda’s Christian martyrs, and Kabaka Muteesa I, who introduced formal education in Uganda by inviting missionaries into the country. Another king buried at the tombs is Kabaka Daudi Chwa II, who was a champion of modernity and equality, and constructed the first modern house in Buganda kingdom. He believed in gender equality and allowed women to eat chicken and eggs just like men, a practice that was previously unheard of. Kabaka Muteesa II, who was responsible for Uganda’s independence, is also buried at the Kasubi Royal Tombs.

Idi Amin Torture Chambers

During Idi Amin’s reign of terror, a number of Ugandans that were against his rule were kidnapped and brought to the torture chambers located at Bulange in Kampala city inside the Buganda king’s palace. The torture chamber was established by Obote who used them to punish those that opposed his rule and after his overthrow, Idi AMIN also used the same torture chambers to inflict pain and punishment on the people that were against his rule. Over 30,000 people were believed to have been killed in the place which has 5 cells where people would be piled on top of each other, water would be put in the different cells, and they would be electrocuted.

Namirembe cathedral

The St Paul’s Cathedral, also known as the Namirembe Cathedral, is the oldest cathedral in Uganda constructed during the 1915 and 1919’s. The construction of the permanent structure was initiated after the previous four cathedrals were destroyed due to various reasons. The cathedral features a graveyard of the first East African Bishop James Hannington who was killed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga the same Buganda king who ordered the killing of the Uganda martyrs.

Uganda national mosque

The Uganda National Mosque, also known as the Gaddafi mosque, was constructed by the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and is the biggest mosque in East Africa. The mosque is one of the major religious tourism destinations that a tourist can visit while carrying out a Uganda tour. The architectural design of the mosque is particularly noteworthy due to the quality work that was put into its construction.

Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Namugongo

The Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Namugongo was established in commemoration of the Uganda martyrs who were killed because of their faith in God on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga, the then king of Buganda kingdom. The martyrs were burnt alive for disobeying the orders of the king. The shrine features displays of how the martyrs were killed, including royal guards stabbing the martyrs with spears, smashing their heads with axes, and burning them alive. The annual celebration for the martyrs is carried out every 3rd of June which is a day for feasting, having fun and most especially celebrating and praying for the Uganda martyrs.

After the rewarding experience visiting the different sites in the country, you will transfer back to Kampala city where you will be dropped off at a location of your choice and the end of your 1 days Uganda cultural safari.
